Abstract

The paper deals with «science poetry» concept developed in the late XIX-early XX century by René Gillet and Valery Brusov. The concept was disclosed in V. Brusov’s lectures, his works on literary theory and two collection of verses: «Mea» and «Distant Territories» («Дали»), which are replete with the scientific terms. The paper considers two scholars depicted in «The Fiery Angel», a novel by V. Brusov, Agrip-pa von Nettesheim and Faust, as well as in his other works, primarily, «A Night Trip», etc. The paper concludes that V. Brusov’s creativity pre-empted science fiction.
